The law stipulates a minimum deductible of CHF 300 and a maximum deductible of CHF 2,500 for adults from 19 years of age for basic insurance. A deductible is not applicable for children up to 18 years of age. It is possible to choose a deductible of CHF 200, 400 or 600.
You can save on basic insurance premiums by increasing your annual deductible. You can make a change at the start of every calendar year. Check here how your basic health insurance premiums will change if you adjust your deductible.
Only if the costs during a calendar year exceed the agreed deductible will the health insurance cover 90% of the additional costs. You must pay 10% of these costs. This is called the excess. The maximum excess is CHF 700 for adults and CHF 350 for children, regardless of the selected annual deductible.
