Questions and answers (FAQ)
Whether you are thinking about trying for a baby or you already have your positive pregnancy test in front of you, becoming a parent is a time of joy, but there are also things you need to think about. That is why it is all the more important that you think about the insurance you will need early on.
Your basic insurance already contains some benefits related to pregnancy and maternity. ÖKK PARENTS supplementary insurance contains a wealth of valuable extras, which close any gaps in cover if taken out in good time. A qualifying period also applies. What does this mean?
Basic insurance is compulsory for all people residing in Switzerland, even for babies. Expectant parents are advised to register their child with a health insurer before the birth. But why?
Parents must register their child for basic insurance within three months of them being born. Until then, insurance companies are obliged to unconditionally accept babies into their basic insurance, no matter whether they are healthy or not.
Different rules apply with respect to supplementary insurance: once the baby is born, the insurance company will request information about the baby’s health. Parents must provide a lot of information, meaning the process is both time-consuming and risky.
There is a real sense of anticipation, but also uncertainty. Is your unborn child healthy? Prenatal examinations, such as nuchal scans during the first trimester check-up, can provide information about the health of your child.
During a normal pregnancy, basic insurance covers the costs of seven routine check-ups (with no deductible or excess), of which two are ultrasound scans.
We can provide an overview of the examinations this includes, how they work and under what conditions the costs are covered.
