Are you soon expecting a visit from relatives abroad? Even when you are eagerly anticipating a visit, it is still important to think about whether your guests are properly insured so that they can feel at ease during their stay in Switzerland.
As somebody who has health insurance in Switzerland, you can also take out travel insurance for you and your closest relatives when you visit family or friends abroad. If, on the other hand, you receive a visit from abroad and your guests have not taken out travel insurance in their home country, you can take out a guest insurance policy for them. This means your guests will be insured for their treatment costs, so if they fall ill or have an accident during their stay, the insurance will cover the majority of costs.
Which costs are insured?
The insurance covers the costs of emergency medical treatments in the case of accident or illness. This includes, for example, treatment measures, medically prescribed hospital stays on a general ward incl. medical aids. An excess of CHF 200 applies for each claim (for people over 60, an excess of CHF 500 applies). This means that you have to pay the first CHF 200 / CHF 500 yourself. The costs of search and rescue activities are also insured, up to a maximum of 10% of the insurance amount. In the event of death, the repatriation of the body is also organised / paid for.
What is not insured?
The insurance does not cover, for example, pre-existing illnesses before departure, general or routine check-ups, pregnancy and birth, mental disorders, dental and jaw diseases as well as aircraft accidents.
Who can be insured?
Both individuals and families can be insured. It is ideal for people who reside outside the EU / EFTA because Schengen visa insurance is required for them to obtain a visa. An insurance amount of CHF 50,000 per person is required to obtain a visa (Switzerland or Schengen countries). The maximum term of insurance is six months (184 days) per stay. The insurance can be concluded up to a maximum of five days after arriving in Switzerland. The insurance can only be concluded for people under the age of 80.
